New Turkish caftan keychain or bag charms

I realised not everybody would be happy with wearing on of my caftan designs around their necks, so I decided to slightly alter my designs and make them into keychain/bag charms. That way everybody can use them. :) I hope you like my new creations as much as I do :)

This caftan keychain or bag charm would make a wonderful gift! The caftan is a one of a kind miniature caftan pendant was designed and hand sculpted out of polymer clay by myself in a smoke and pet free environment and finally sealed with resin for extra protection. It's also adorned with a splendid silver plated chain tassel and a caped crystal quartz bead with flower charm dangling beneath.

Caftans worn by the Ottoman Sultans are in my opinion dazzling; some of them were so precious that they were given as rewards to important dignitaries and victorious generals during elaborate religious festivals. During the 14th century large patterns and subdued colours were used gradually becoming smaller and brighter in the next century. You’ll notice popular motifs include big pine cones, tree leaves, pomegranate designs, tulip, dot motifs and cloud motifs were used.

One of the most splendid collections can be found in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.

Black caftan motif necklace

I was really pleased with the outcome of this necklace, but I have to say I was a little unsure whilst making it. It was the first time I used resin on my polymer clay designs, it's taken months to pluck up the courage to use it and oh god didn't I make a mess of the house! lol. I tried to be tidy but I ended up sticking my fingers together, sticking the pendants to foil, I even spilt it on our new coffee table, aghhh! Luckily, I got it out before it all dried, phew. Even after all that, it hasn't put me off trying it again! Stubborn, eh? Anyway heres the usual Etsy write up:

Most of my jewlery has an influence from Turkey and for me one of the most popular attractions of Turkey are the Whirling dervishes!

About Semazen - Whirling Dervish

Sufi whirling (or Sufi spinning), is a turning meditation that originated among Sufis, which is still practiced by the Dervishes of the Mevlevi order. It is a symbolic ritual through which dervishes (also called semazens) aim to reach the “perfect” (kemal). The aim is to abandon one’s nafs, egos or personal desires, by listening to God and the music (hence the term sema), thinking about God and whirling which has been compared to the orbiting of the planets in the Solar System around the sun.

As explained by Sufis: In the symbolism of the Sema ritual, the semazen’s camel’s hair hat (sikke) represents the tombstone of the ego; his wide, white skirt represents the ego’s shroud. By removing his black cloak, he is spiritually reborn to the truth. At the beginning of the Sema, by holding his arms crosswise, the semazen appears to represent the number one, thus testifying to God’s unity. While whirling, his arms are open: his right arm is directed to the sky, ready to receive God’s beneficence; his left hand, upon which his eyes are fastened, is turned toward the earth. The semazen conveys God’s spiritual gift to those who are witnessing the Sema. Revolving from right to left around the heart, the semazen embraces all humanity with love. The human being has been created with love in order to love. Mevlâna Jalâluddîn Rumi says, “All loves are a bridge to Divine love. Yet, those who have not had a taste of it do not know!”

Mixed beaded purple/mauve statement necklace - One of a kind

Stunning mixed bead and chain statement necklace with one of my very own handmade polymer clay roses. This is a one of a kind item, I will not be making any other necklace that resembles this! therefore you’ll be the only person in the world who owns it. Amazing isn’t it?

This necklace was made with losely braided strings of glass pearl beads, crystal beads, chains and ribbons. The glamorous rose was hand sculpted from polymer clay (fimo). Each petal is individually formed and shaped into a rose flower.

My polymer clay covered bangle sets

Stackig bangles are one of this year popular trends. The sets consist of one thick (5/16" wide) and two narrow (1/8th" wide) bangles.

The clay is set and baked into a brass channel bracelet base, then sanded and buffed to a matt/satin smooth finish. They are waterproof and very durable perfect for day to day use.

Bracelet diameter is 6.7cm = 2.625 inches

Turkish Team meeting in Istanbul

Even though I couldn't attend the Etsy Turkish Team, it was very successful. The Etsy Turkish team is a group of very talented Turkish or Turkish related people who create arts and crafts and sell here on Etsy. Each of our members produce very special, high quality beautiful arts, handmade creations and also offer supplies.

I'm sooo pleased to be a member of this team and even though I'm a relatively new member I've learnt sooo much from them. They are the most kindest and selfless people I’ve ever met and will do everything (which sometimes means spending several hours in front of their computer in the heat) promoting each others shops.

Turkish flower bracelet

This beautiful Turkish influenced bracelet was made with silk, Turkish Cini piece and Tarnish resistant gold plated pieces. This piece is an original artwork, it is hand painted, not a print.

Length: 20cm = 7.9 inches

About Turkish Cini:

Fine ceramics, or cini, have been produced in Turkey since the end of the 14th century. A painted under glaze on a composite white body, cini began simply as blue design painted on a white ground. Turquoise was then added. The palette of color continued expanding until the mid 16th century, at the peak of the Ottoman Empire in the days of Suleyman the Magnificent when Turkish cini became some of the most prized ceramics in the entire world. The hues ranged from a black with the sheen of coal, deep blues and turquoise, green as fresh as baby grass, the red of ripe tomatoes.

I know I've not written anything on here for a while, so for a change I thought I'd share a few family pictures with you all.

As some of you may know I work very very hard through the summer months, working around 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. I don't know if i'm getting older but it's finally taking it's toll. So as from now on.... I'm giving myself 1 day off each week, SUNDAY!!!!. Hurray.

My Auntie G came to visit me this week so on my day off we organised to meet up at their hotel pool for a bit of a splish splash. Honestly it did me a world of good, and I even caught the sun!!! Shock! I won't go as far as saying I have a tan, because thats impossible with my fair hair and skin. But I do have more freckles. lol.

Anyway enough of the chit chat and heres a few snaps:
